The Green Industry of the 21st Century is an exciting and fast paced world that differs greatly from antiquated images of dilapidated machinery, hand written estimates, and designs thrown together on a notepad over the hood of a truck. In addition to Horticulture knowledge and work ethic, today's landscape professionals rely on GIS systems, handheld mobile technology that travels with them into the field, and business software that provides real time reporting of performance metrics to allow for timely decision making and forecasting. Whether you are new to the workforce, or a highly skilled expert, career minded landscapers today have more options than ever before, ranging from self employment, all the way to employment with multi billion dollar per year national companies. With so many options available, finding the right company for you can be difficult when filtering through all of the promises and smooth talking babble of corporate recruiters and the likes. As someone who has spent their entire life around this maturing industry, I encourage you to be thorough in your evaluations, and seek an opportunity where your professional passion can best flourish.
Bland Landscpaing Company is a regional provider of landscape services, whose home office is located in Apex, North Carolina. The business was started in 1976 by my mother and father, and today it is operated by an energetic, and entreprenurially minded executive team that I lead with the instrumental help of my brother, Matt Bland. Our service areas include most major metropolitan areas in the state of North Carolina, with branch and satellite locations strategically placed to service the needs of our clients. If you are a Horticulture professional in our state, and you live in or near the Triangle, Triad, or Charlotte Metro areas, we would like to get to know you and encourage you to find out what makes Bland Landscaping Company a unique place to work, with turnover rates far lower than many of our industry competitors.
People drive our business. The phrase sounds cliche, but ours is an industry where people make up the majority of the operating expense, yet employers often times fall short on their end of the equation and spend more time focused on deciding which brand of mowers to buy than they spend on builidng a culture. As a family owned, regional company, we have both the resources, and the ability to do better. We continually gauge ourselves against industries outside of our own, and borrow from them to improve. It is not good enough to be a more well run company than our competitors, but instead we seek ideas and measure ourselves against other industries, including the ones we service. Our culture, and our approach are both authentic and genuine. Our state's motto "Esse Quam Videri" (To Be Rather Than to Seem) is a real part of our philosophy, and as authentic, down to earth people ourselves, we seek like minded persons who place value on a performance driven culture that rewards excellence at all levels. We are attune to the fact that every member of our team plays a crucial role in our success, and our culture reflects our sincere appreciation of the individual and their collective efforts as a team.
We invest in people and we reward those who take time to invest in their own professional development. Through internal and external resources alike, we teach our employees the skills they need to be more successful in this industry. We take this very seriously, and even go so far as to offer full time employees educational reimbursement for career specific education inlcuding college coursework, and technical seminars. Internally, we have programs that teach technical job skills and management skills to help self motivated people achieve success. Evidence is in the pedigrees of our executive team and managers, most of whom have risen through the ranks after starting in entry level supervisory roles as foremen or crew leaders themselves.
We believe that strong communities depend on strong businesses, and vice versa. At Bland Landscaping Company we require every manager to work at least two work days per year doing pro-bono projects to build our connection to the community. As a family owned company, we have the discretion to give back to the community, and each year we do. For examples, research us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, or the Internet.
Each person is different, and so are we. During the great recession, we made some signifcant investments into repositioning Bland Landscaping Company as a regional company that competes well with national companies, but offers the culture and atmosphere that national companies cannot replicate. If you are looking for career opportunity that will take you around the country, we are not for you! However, if you want a fast paced landscaping career in The Great State of North Carolina, with a company that values its human resources most of all, lets talk...
I invite you to learn more about Bland Landscaping Company, and to see if our culture aligns with your values. If it does, I hope you will apply for current or future openings.
Sincerely yours,
Kurt H. Bland
